Cargo Bikes

This past summer I have had the opportunity to use a cargo bike to do my grocery shopping. While we did not do all our shopping with this bike, my once a week 25 mile round trip to the store has done more than save some carbon emissions. It has helped me get in better health and provided hours of fun spending more time out doors.

There are a many options for cargo bikes today, I will cover a few of the ones I looked at. They are all great bikes, you really just need to pick the one that best suits your needs.

The original modern cargo bike in the US (to my knowledge) was made by Xtracycle. They offer everything from kits to convert your existing bike to complete bikes. Below is a picture of the Radish Trucker. Check them out at www.xtracycle.com.

Surly has been making their Big Dummy for many years now. The Big Dummy has a great reputation for quality and dependability and is built using the Xtracycle system. Check it out at www.surlybikes.com.

The next is the Trek Transport. Trek offers a great price and a quality designed product by Gary Fisher in both an electric assisted model (the Transport+) and a non electric assisted model (the Transport). Check them out at www.trekbikes.com.

The Kona UTE is a great value in a cargo bike. Check it out at www.konaworld.com.

A new cargo bike that just came out is from Yuba called the Boda Boda it is aimed to be size wise between a cargo bike and a regular bike. Check it out at: www.yubaride.com
